Object-based visual attention for computer vision

چکیده
In this paper, a novel model of object-based visual attention extending Duncan’s Integrated Competition Hypothesis [Phil. Trans. R. Soc. London B 353 (1998) 1307–1317] is presented. In contrast to the attention mechanisms used in most previous machine vision systems which drive attention based on the spatial location hypothesis, the mechanisms which direct visual attention in our system are object-driven as well as feature-driven. The competition to gain visual attention occurs not only within an object but also between objects. For this purpose, two new mechanisms in the proposed model are described and analyzed in detail. The first mechanism computes the visual salience of objects and groupings; the second one implements the hierarchical selectivity of attentional shifts. The results of the new approach on synthetic and natural images are reported. 2003 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.

A computer vision model for visual-object-based attention and eye movements
This paper presents a new computational framework for modelling visual-object based attention and attention-driven eye movements within an integrated system in a biologically inspired approach. Attention operates at multiple levels of visual selection by space, feature, object and group depending on the nature of targets and visual tasks. Attentional shifts and gaze shifts are constructed upon ...
متن کاملVisual Attention Based Salient Object Motion Detection in Spatio Temporal Volume
260 Abstract—We present different visual attention based salient object detection methods for effectively detecting object in structured environment. Human brains pay more attention towards some important part of image sequences. Those attentions are extraordinary fast and realistic one. Computation of such salient object detection like intelligence behavior is very difficult task for implement...
متن کاملObject-based Saliency as a Predictor of Attention in Visual Tasks
The top-down guidance of visual attention is an important factor allowing humans to effectively process incoming visual information. Our understanding of the processes governing attention is not complete, with growing evidence for attention selection based on cognitive relevance. In this paper, we investigate whether models for salient object detection from computer vision can be used to predic...
متن کاملVisual Tracking using Learning Histogram of Oriented Gradients by SVM on Mobile Robot
The intelligence of a mobile robot is highly dependent on its vision. The main objective of an intelligent mobile robot is in its ability to the online image processing, object detection, and especially visual tracking which is a complex task in stochastic environments. Tracking algorithms suffer from sequence challenges such as illumination variation, occlusion, and background clutter, so an a...
متن کاملAssessing the contribution of color in visual attention
Visual attention is the ability of a vision system, be it biological or artificial, to rapidly detect potentially relevant parts of a visual scene, on which higher level vision tasks, such as object recognition, can focus. The saliency-based model of visual attention represents one of the main attempts to simulate this visual mechanism on computers. Though biologically inspired, this model has ...
